ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern combination of psychotherapy, (a talking therapy) and hypnosis. It’s based on the latest research from neuroscience and incorporates the very best elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). The psychotherapy itself is extremely beneficial and we enhance the effects through the application of hypnosis.

Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is a very natural, relaxing state, where you remain in complete control. Encouraged using guided relaxation this allows your mind to relax and focus on thoughts and suggestions that may be useful to bring about your desired changes. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. We look at what you want to achieve, the solution, rather than dwelling on problems of the past that caused the issue.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help improve many conditions and symptoms that are often related to anxiety and depression. It is also a fantastic therapy for treating sleep problems, chronic pain, IBS, motivation, confidence, phobias and quit smoking. The solution focused approach is also effective in helping in other areas such as sports performance and business, helping clients to maximise their performance to achieve their goals. Hypnosis or trance is simply a state of focused attention. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestion. In a therapeutic setting, the suggestions are designed to be beneficial to help you change unhelpful thought patterns. During the trance state you are fully in control, you’ll process the suggestions and decide whether the information shared is useful, if not you will simply not accept it. When we begin the hypnosis, you will be asked to relax in a comfortable reclining chair or therapy couch. I’ll then talk and guide you into further relaxation. Everything I suggest will be designed to bring about positive changes by helping you change your thought patterns. You won’t need to talk or reveal any secrets. Clients often comment about how ‘ordinary’ hypnosis feels – it’s not unlike daydreaming – you can often hear everything that’s being said whilst being in a deeply relaxed state.

Everyone’s experience of trance differs. For the purposes of this therapy a simple light trance state is very effective for most issues and can be achieved easily using guided relaxation techniques. You’ll find it easier to achieve a hypnotic state with continued practice by using my relaxation self-hypnosis track at home and as our weekly sessions progress.

Therapists should never guarantee 100% success, no such claims should ever be made. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and success is dependent on your desire and commitment to the therapy and for making changes in your life. I have received a high level of training and have experience of working with a broad range of clients with many differing conditions. We’ll review your progress each week and you are in control of how many sessions you feel you need to reach your desired outcome.

I trained at the prestigious Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training School (CPHT), which is a recognised, accredited Centre of Excellence in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy. I have been awarded the Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH). I’ve also been awarded the prestigious Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD).

The letters AfSFH (Reg) and CNHC after my name demonstrate that I have received a high standard of training and have had my credentials checked, approved and validated by the professional organisations that I have voluntarily registered with. I am also an approved Anxiety UK therapist. I have to provide evidence of ongoing training and professional development as well as supervision to these organisations. The CNHC is the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners and is sponsored by the Department of Health. The initial consultation is one of the most important sessions, the beginning of real focus and change. Together we’ll explore what you want to achieve and how many sessions may be required. I’ll explain how hypnotherapy works and I’ll briefly explore how the mind works in relation to your issues and how if you’re willing to make changes, hypnotherapy can help you achieve your goals. You’ll also receive a complimentary hypnotic relaxation CD or download to listen to at home which sets the wheels in motion for your subsequent sessions.

The number of hypnotherapy sessions required for lasting change is different for everyone because each of is unique in terms of our feelings and experiences. Sometimes change happens fairly quickly for clients, for others it can take longer. Some clients return after a successful treatment programme on a monthly basis to maintain their focus, which some call ‘mind management’.

We’ll discuss the number of sessions required at your initial consultation, whilst Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand, the solution focused approach does help you create positive change in a relatively short period of time.

Typically for anxiety and stress related issues, a minimum of 6 – 8 sessions are required, sometimes more to get you where you want to be. Fears and phobias require just 3 sessions.

The initial consultation lasts up to 45 minutes, subsequent weekly hypnotherapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes.

Hypnotherapy sessions online via Zoom are payable in advance via PayPal. Clinical appointments can be made by cash, card, bank transfer or cheque before or after each session.

Parking is available on site at the clinic. Clients attending appointments at the Integral LIFE Centre in Bagshot, can find a convenient car park nearby behind the Co-Op Supermarket. Parking is free for 2 hours with a valid ticket.

Please provide 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. I hold a waiting list, and this allows me to offer your appointment to others. To cancel or change your appointment, please call me to discuss, I reserve the right to charge late cancellations, forgotten or missed appointments at the full rate.

I adhere to a code of professional conduct as documented with the following professional associations that I am registered with: Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and The National Council of Hypnotherapists (NCH).They ensure I uphold high standards of confidentiality. All information discussed or recorded during our sessions is fully confidential and treated with care. Your information is not shared unless you provide express permission for me to do so. I have professional supervisors with whom I may discuss your sessions with, in all cases client anonymity will be respected. This ensures that you receive a high quality of care.

ABOUT OUR ONLINE SESSIONS

Hypnosis doesn’t reply on having a therapist in the room with you. We all go in and out of this hypnotic state, also known as ‘trance’ several times a day, often when we’re focused on the task in hand. Have you ever been watching a good film or reading a book and completely lost track of time? Trance is a very natural and safe state where you’ll remain in complete control and can easily achieve as long as you can hear the guided relaxation.

Absolutely, online hypnotherapy is just as effective as working together in the clinic and follows the same structured approach. It’s useful if you are restricted by time, location, family commitments or medial conditions, making it accessible to all. I offer a free initial online consultation via Zoom, which provides a safe and secure connection and gives us the opportunity to trial the process before committing to future sessions.
