When we feel pain, it's our natural survival mechanism kicking in, telling us that we've been damaged so we can act fast. Acute pain typically occurs after an injury or illness, and the pain reduces and eventually resolves once the injury has healed. Without this useful reaction our survival would be threatened. However, when pain serves no useful purpose and becomes chronic and persistent, it becomes exhausting and can affect you physically and emotionally, often leading to stress, insomnia and anxiety. Daily activities become difficult and overwhelming and you're unable to enjoy life as you used to.
